How did Scent + Sprout get started?

I am originally from Melbourne, Australia, but I decided to pack up my bags and move to New York City with my high school sweetheart and miniature dachshund, Linguine (like the pasta). When the pandemic hit, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands. Since I’ve always been passionate about sustainability and natural products, I decided to put my energy into creating a business that aligned with my values. From there, Scent & Sprout was born!

Can you describe the candles featured in this month’s Vellabox?

Nothing says fall like Bonfire. This scent is the perfect combination of woods and smoke with a slight hint of a roasted marshmallow, saffron, clove, and amber.

For Autumn Nights, I wanted to create a cozy scent that truly embodied the perfect night in during the fall season. Nothing like lighting your candle and enjoying a good book.

Herb Garden is a fresh, herbal scent that is perfect for harvest season with notes of spearmint, eucalyptus, tomato leaf, and wood. All three of these candles are exclusive launches for Vellabox subscribers.

What is your favorite candle that you’ve created?

I enjoy drawing inspiration from my own experiences in NYC, the serene landscapes of upstate New York, and some of my favorite memories in Australia to remind me of home.

My favorite candle is Daintree Rainforest. This scent truly captures the essence of Australia’s lush rainforests with a blend of green leaves, sugar, dew-kissed foliage, citrus, sandalwood and musk. My favorite non-candle product would have to be my new room sprays!

What values or pillars does your business take pride in?

At Scent & Sprout, I take pride in personally curating and blending a collection of scents that transport you to different places and evoke memories. Overall, our main 3 pillars are: Sustainability, Quality and Customer Satisfaction.

Our candles are hand-poured using 100% soy wax, phthalate-free fragrance oils, and cotton wicks. We prioritize sustainability by using eco-friendly packaging, encouraging the reuse of candle jars, and planting one tree with every purchase through our partnership with One Tree Planted.

What has surprised you about being a candle maker and running your business?

We are committed to using only organic and sustainable materials, so our products can be eco-friendly and safe for you and your loved ones.

While utilizing my Visual Merchandising background, this business can sometimes be the hardest, but most rewarding thing ever.

Since it’s football season, do you celebrate any game days?

I am not big on game days normally. But since moving to the US, I do enjoy going to a bar to watch the Super Bowl. Though, I will let you in on a little secret it’s mainly for the commercials!
